How to (somewhat) stay in a routine: hometown holidays edition
I just pretend I'm in Hannah Montana: The Movie, TBH 🥧
No, I’m not an international pop star. I’m just a girl in college trying to survive the holiday breaks…
& here’s how I do it.
Waking up at a consistent time
Get your rest because you deserve it. It doesn’t have to be at 7 am. But keeping a consistent schedule will help you once the holidays are over and you won’t be a mess the following Monday at work or school. I’ve been trying to, at least, wake up at 8 am, allowing me time to just sit in bed for a minute… or ten.
Setting small goals
Writing down at least three small to-dos at the beginning of the day just gets me in the right mindset. The tasks can be SO easy: unpacking, cleaning an area of your room, cooking one meal for that day. etc.
This was my to-do list today:
Send a writing sample for review
Revise a project script
Editing two IG reels
By writing these goals down, I realize they actually didn’t take that long to complete and can usually knock them out by lunchtime.
Finding new activities
I’m so guilty of regressing into middle school me and just jumping from my laptop and phone every hour. Finding things to do that aren’t mindless is so important when you feel stuck in the suburbs.
Here are some random activities I’ve done since coming back for the break:
Learning French (still working on this). Fiona & Chloé recommended using Language Transfer, and I’ve enjoyed the learning style so far.
Making mock travel itineraries with my friends.
Browsing my hometown grocery store because I love it that much.
Activities to complete this week:
Clean out my car.
Thrift. I want to find some jeans or an off-the-shoulder sweater!
See some hometown friends.
Clear out junk mail from my e-mails.
Let me know what is keeping you sane during the hometown holidays!
XOXO
